I’m excited to give back to our military families and help military kids feel seen, because they serve too.”

WALNUT CREEK, CA, UNITED STATES, March 27, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — Military spouse and children’s book author Monica Voicu Denniston is making a heartfelt gesture in honor of the Month of the Military Child by donating hardcover copies of her picture book “Maggie the Military Rat” to over 160 public and DODEA elementary schools on military installations across the United States. Additionally, she is making the e-book available to service members for free through the United Through Reading app starting in April.

Denniston, an active duty Air Force spouse and mother of three, understands firsthand the challenges faced by military families, particularly children. Her debut picture book, “Maggie the Military Rat,” has garnered widespread acclaim for its engaging narrative and moving artwork, making it a beloved addition to the shelves of military families. Kirkus Reviews recently hailed the book as “[a] beautiful, bighearted adventure, offering delight where it’s needed most” and awarded it the prestigious Kirkus Star.

In recognition of the sacrifices made by military families and the resilience shown by military children, Denniston has decided to give back in a meaningful way. Throughout the Month of the Military Child, she will be donating hardcover copies of her book to elementary schools on military installations across the nation. “I compiled a list of over 160 on-base elementary schools in the US, and will ship each one a copy during the month of April,” shared Denniston. “I’m excited to give back to our military families and help military kids feel seen, because they serve too.” Denniston will use her Instagram and Facebook accounts to announce schools receiving donations each day of April using the hashtag #maggieformilitarykids. Denniston has also donated the electronic version of her book to United Through Reading, a nonprofit that helps military service members record themselves reading books to their children through its free program and app.

The Month of the Military Child is a time to recognize and honor the resilience of military children who navigate the unique challenges of military life with courage and strength. Denniston hopes her donations will provide a valuable resource to the youngest members of the military community.
